We're excited to announce that we have a new exhibition, 'It's a Small World' The exhibition will take a closer look at models and model makers. From steam engines, fairground rides and dolls houses created from scratch to the ever popular model making kits such as meccano and lego, this exhibition invites you to explore a world of creativity.
From the Ice Age to the Modern Age!
Join us on a guided walk to explore the hidden history of this thriving market town. Discover historic buildings, famous landmarks and royal connections and learn about the notable people who shaped the town.
The walk starts at Beck Isle Museum and finishes at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Station. The route is approximately one mile and will take in amongst other sights the Market Place, Church and Castle. Please note there is a slight gradient and some steps. These wonderful artisan markets run from March to November. On a Saturday you'll find an outdoor market in the picturesque surroundings of Beck Isle Museum. When you've finished browsing the stalls why not pop into our museum shop to look at our selection of unusual and unique handcrafted gifts, cards, pottery and jewellery then treat yourself to a leisurely stroll around our fascinating museum. The museum shop is free to visit. There is a small charge for the museum but your ticket is valid for a year!
Beck Isle Museum welcomes you to join us for our annual Christmas Fair.
There will be many stalls selling a wide range of items, tombola and bottle tombola, a pop-up café serving cakes, light bites and hot drinks, and a raffle with some wonderful prizes to be won! We will be joined by Pickering Junior School choir and the Junior Stape Silver Band, come hear some wonderful Christmas music.
Join Janice Burley from Down2Earth to learn how to make a willow wreath, then decorate it with natural foliage to create a beautiful wreath for your front door. We have a working forge at the museum where you can watch our volunteers blacksmithing most Mondays. If you are visiting to see the blacksmith demonstrations please ring in advance to confirm that they are working.
